Godless YouTubers Unite!

Over at PZ's, first in the comments of a post last night, and now featured in this post today, I came across this YouTube video by Nick Gisburne, an atheist whose previous accounts have been deleted. I'll let Nick explain.

An understandably Angry Atheist managed to upload the offending video for your viewing pleasure.

In the comments over at PZ's someone suggested that other YouTubers should repost the offending video to their accounts in order to show their support. I am trying to figure out how to do that at the moment. Meanwhile, enjoy this remix of Paula Zahn's feature on all the atheists who should just shut the hell up!

Brought to you by Freethought Weekly. Keep writing those angry letters!

First Attempt:

It seems other people are having a difficult time uploading the offending video to their accounts, including Nick himself. I have successfully uploaded the video here, intending it to appear as a video response, but as you can see, it's still being "processed." You can find the video at Nick's website. Why not give it a try?

Further Videos:

Nick posted the video below, which is along the same lines as the offending video, and conspicuously remains on Nick's account, while the other is repeatedly deleted.

Nick gives his thanks for all the support, and then some...

Update:

And now, as you may have noticed, my video will not appear because evidently I have violated YouTube's terms of use. Boycott, anyone?

Go give Nick's videos the highest of ratings, save them to your favorites, subscribe to his channel, try uploading the offending video yourself, and of course, leave him some words of encouragement in the comments!

Update:

Nick has just informed me that he will be uploading a new video soon because "the situation is getting more complicated by the minute, believe me."

Second Attempt:

I have successfully uploaded the offending video again. I wonder, will it survive the "process" this time?

Nope. Shall I go for strike three?

Third Attempt:

For my third, and perhaps final attempt, instead of reposting the offending video as a video response, I tried uploading it to my account all on it's own, but somehow I doubt it will appear. Three strikes and you're out! Excuse me while I keep a close eye on my account.

More Bad News:

Nick's current account has been suspended! This calls for an angry letter, an angry video, and last but not least, more futile attempts to upload the offending video to my account. I'm going for broke!

Even More Bad News:

Scratch that last bit. I can no longer post video responses to his videos. And with the exception of the offending video, which conspicuously remains on the aforementioned godless YouTuber's account, none of Nick's videos posted above are currently available.

Before I take what further action I can, I'd like to thank the Internet Infidels for posting this to their News Wire and Forum. May the word spread far and wide.

Guerrilla Tactics:

Pablo has ordered the following Google Bomb, exploiting the search term "YouTube censorship." So shall the Google Bombing commence!

YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship YouTube censorship

(This bomb has grown so large that I'm tempted to declare myself a nuclear power.)

And TAW, a regular commenter over at PZ's, has begun flagging certain videos as inappropriate. I'm going to flag all videos critical of atheism, at least for now. That should keep me busy for a while.

Update:

Someone was kind enough to upload what Nick had to say about the current situation.

Testing YouTube:

I was able to upload a muted version of the offending video, but yet another upload of the original with sound has been rejected as a duplicate. Let's see what happens once I make some slight alterations.

I can't see what the fuss is about concerning the islam video if they are just parts from the quran.

Most of us know that similar things can be found in the bible as well.

Okay, this is just ridiculous. I would have thought organizations learned their lesson about censorship a long time ago, but it seems each must be taught individually.

They have officially declared war on free thought in the same of keeping muslims from being offended by their own book. If it's a war they want, a war they'll get. To arms!

Hi! I found you through the Internet Infidels News Wire. It's appalling this continues to happen. Is everybody so scared to offend the exquisite sensibilities of fanatics? I've posted in my blog linking to this article and the copy of the video, and suggesting that we should start a campaign to link YouTube censorship to this article.

I also found you through the Internet Infidels News Wire. I am a fellow Texan-just north of Dallas. Love the site—great work. Will visit often. Thanks

You can include me in your massive Google search. This banning cuts rather close to the bone for me, since I tend to point out that the Biblical verse banning homosexuality is cheek by jowl with others mandating death for insolent children, stoning for adulterers, and burning at the stake for anyone who consorts with animals. And it calls for the same laws and the same justice to be be applied to both foreigner and citizen. Equal-opportunity Gitmo for all, anyone?

Cool! Thanks for linking to those videos! I already flagged them all, AND I rated them one star. lol.

I'll try to help with the google bomb, but I'm not sure how many links I can make...

I decided to test youtube by uploading the silent version of the offending video (you can download it from gisburne.com). It says it's live, although I can't see it yet.

I figure everyone should do the same, because now they don't have an excuse to ban the video. There will be far more of them than there was before. If it they deleted it because of "inappropriate content" and not because of the copyright issue, I figure they will learn their lesson, since the backlash was huge.

(I'll keep on flagging videos though. It's fun, and this is far from settled)

I'm happy to support Nick's effort to have his videos reposted. Like you, I think Google should offer a more consistent policy. Bottom line: It should be okay to criticize all religions (and none). If not, then say so.

That said, I don't think it's really helpful to flag every Christian video you can find in retaliation. It seems to me that just reinforces the move toward more censorship.

First, I have not exclusively flagged Christian videos.

Second, YouTube may want to rethink how videos are flagged in the first place.

My contribution.

YouTube Go Boom.

(I don't comment here much because I have to sign in to my old Blogger account to do it, but I do read regularly. Just so y'know.)

JanieBelle said...

OK, after reading that, perhaps I should elaborate...

Kate and I often swap which computer we're using, which means we have to log out and log back in, and we're just lazy.

Sorry if that sounded bitchy or something, I didn't mean it that way.

Kisses

Oh, plus then my name links to my defunct blogger blog.

If we can't bring Nick Gisburne back to YouTube, then lets bring Nick's story, and videos, to the rest of the web!

Youtube just bowed to some radical animal rights activists that campainded against an art performance of mine, dealing with the beheading of Nick Berg. After 2 weeks of controversial discussion between users liking it and others that simply threatend my life, youtube kicked the video off. I agree that the video is a controversial piece, but the images shown there are not as brutal or heavy than a lot of other stuff I found of youtube people simply put there for fun. As well as no law has been broken and there where no copyright issues.
I belive in the freedom of speech, especially in the fields of contemporary art. Luckily there are more video sites than youtube: http://blip.tv/file/174257
